About
Hi, I'm Mack.
Mackenzie (Mack) Stannard is a documentary director, producer and business affairs consultant. He got his start in film by way of free rentals at Rogers Video. He studied Critical Communication Theory and Business Administration at Simon Fraser University and documentary at the University of Sussex. He began his career as the Peter Gzowski intern at CBC Radio before working in production on docu-series for National Geographic and HGTV.
His first documentary, This Ink Runs Deep, premiered at TIFF and streamed on CBC Gem. Since then his work has screened at SXSW, Hot Docs, TIFF, Tribeca, Doc NYC, Banff and VIFF, with distribution through ESPN, CBC, Telus Originals, APTN, Knowledge Network and The New Yorker. Credits include Joe Buffalo (SXSW Audience Award, IDA nominated), Precious Leader Woman (Banff Audience Award), Union Street (VIFF, Telus Originals), In a New Light (Whistler Film Festival) and Under the Arbor (CBC Absolutely Canadian).
His latest film as director, Constant Battles, follows Iranian-Canadian boxer Nyousha Nakhjiri's run at the Olympics and world premiered at Hot Docs in 2026.
Whether it's a high-end broadcast documentary or a lean explainer, he brings a producing-first mindset: editorial rigour, logistical precision and a clear eye on the audience. Today he splits his time between directing and running business affairs for Canadian documentary productions through Sentio Films.
